HAND IN HAND fair-trade program: an ethical and sustainable co-operation with coffee, sugarcane and cocoa producers.
HAND IN HAND fair trade means being fair to people while also being fair to nature. This is why Rapunzel has been focusing on organic cultivation and fair production since their humble beginnings in 1974.
In 1992 they decided to develop their own, HAND IN HAND fair trade program: an ethical and sustainable co-operative with coffee, sugarcane and cocoa producers from the South (so-called developing countries) for a more sound environment.
100% fair + 100% organic: HAND IN HAND
Transparency is the essential principle for fair-trade relations. Thanks to their long-standing partnerships with HAND IN HAND (HIH) partners, Rapunzel are in close personal exchange with their suppliers. They continually refine the criteria for their fair-trade program to ensure integrity of supply.
HAND IN HAND ethos: Economic sustainability needs social sustainability. These two go "Hand in Hand".
HIH combine fair-trade principles with organic agriculture to provide ethically sustainable produce.
Reliable, long-term relations and personal visits by Rapunzel guarantee us certified product quality. Product quality is further secured by independent inspectors performing regular, third-party controls.
The proprietary HIH label can be found on all products that contain more than 50% fair-trade raw materials from HIH partners. Organic Times chocolate, coffee and sugar products have the HIH label.
HAND IN HAND DONATION
Since 1998, Rapunzel has been committed to supporting an annual HAND IN HAND donation to the HAND IN HAND Fund.
The HIH Fund, from 1998 to 2021, was a joint initiative with the German Environmental Aid (DUH). 1% of the purchase value of HAND IN HAND raw materials went into the fund.
The donation helped support ecological and social projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America through the HAND IN HAND Fund.
The HAND IN HAND fund supported a total of 468 projects in 64 different countries with a total sum of more than 2 million Euros.
Since 2022, Rapunzel supports the One World Organic Foundation with their HAND IN HAND donation.

– Access to clean water
– Access to renewable energies
– Preserving habitats and species onshore and offshore
– Immediate support of HAND IN HAND partners in case of natural disasters
